Irresistible Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
Ingredients:
12 oz mozzarella cheese sticks (string cheese, cut in half if long)
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons water
1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs (or Panko for extra crunch)
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Cheese Sticks
Freeze the mozzarella cheese sticks for at least 30 minutes. This helps them maintain their shape while frying.
Step 2: Set Up the Breading Station
In three shallow bowls, set up your breading station:
First bowl: Place the flour.
Second bowl: Whisk together the eggs and water until well combined.
Third bowl: Combine the seasoned breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Step 3: Bread the Cheese Sticks
Remove the cheese sticks from the freezer.
Dredge each cheese stick in the flour, coating it evenly, then dip it into the egg mixture, and finally coat it with the breadcrumb mixture.
For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps to double coat each cheese stick.
Step 4: Fry the Cheese Sticks
In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Carefully add a few cheese sticks at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the cheese sticks and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Step 5: Serve
Serve the cheese sticks warm with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce.
