Old-Fashioned Custard Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
3 large eggs
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ½ cups whole milk
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (for sprinkling on top)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place a baking sheet in the oven to preheat as well (this helps the pie crust bake evenly).
Prepare the custard filling:
In a large bowl, beat the eggs slightly. Add the sugar, salt, and vanilla extract, and whisk until well combined.
Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
Assemble the pie:
Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan. Flute the edges as desired.
Carefully pour the custard filling into the unbaked pie crust. Sprinkle the ground nutmeg evenly over the top.
Bake:
Place the pie on the preheated baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 15 minutes at 400°F (200°C), then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set. The center should be slightly jiggly but not liquid.
Cool:
Allow the pie to cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
