Cracker Barrel Fried Apples

Cracker Barrel Fried Apples

Ingredients:
4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
½ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon lemon juice
½ cup water

Directions:
Prepare the Apples:
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Add lemon juice and mix again.
Sauté the Apples:
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once the butter is melted and bubbly, add the apple mixture to the skillet.
Cook the Apples:
Pour the water into the skillet with the apples. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the apples are tender but not mushy. The liquid will reduce and create a syrupy sauce.
Serve:
Remove the skillet from heat and let the fried apples cool slightly. Serve warm as a side dish or dessert. They pair wonderfully with biscuits, pancakes, or ice cream.
