Bolognese Macaroni
Ingredients:
1 pound (450 g) macaroni pasta
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 carrot, finely chopped
1 celery stalk, finely chopped
1 pound (450 g) ground beef
1 can (14 oz/400 g) crushed tomatoes
1/4 cup (60 ml) tomato paste
1/2 cup (120 ml) red wine (optional)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste
Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions:
1. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.
3. Add the chopped carrot and celery to the pan, and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine (if using). Add the dried oregano and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
6. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
7. Toss the cooked macaroni with the Bolognese sauce until well combined.
8. Serve the Bolognese macaroni hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
