Creamy Crab and Shrimp Seafood Bisque 🦀🍤
Rich, velvety, and packed with fresh seafood — this bisque is a perfect comfort food for any occasion!
Ingredients:
For the bisque:
1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 lb crab meat (lump or claw)
2 tbsp butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 celery stalks, finely chopped
1 carrot, finely chopped
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
4 cups seafood stock (or chicken stock)
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the seafood:
If your shrimp isn’t already chopped, cut it into bite-sized pieces. Set the shrimp and crab meat aside.
Sauté the vegetables:
In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, celery, and carrot. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
Make the roux:
Sprinkle the flour over the softened vegetables, stirring constantly for about 2 minutes to cook the flour.
Add the stock and wine:
Gradually add the seafood stock (or chicken stock) while stirring to prevent lumps. If you’re using white wine, add it at this stage. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
Add the seafood and seasonings:
Stir in the shrimp, crab meat, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp are cooked through.
Add the cream:
Pour in the heavy cream and stir until fully incorporated. Let the bisque simmer for another 5 minutes to heat through and blend the flavors.
Blend (optional):
For a smoother bisque, use an immersion blender to puree the soup to your desired consistency, or transfer half of the soup to a blender and puree, then return it to the pot.
Serve and garnish:
Ladle the bisque into bowls and garnish with freshly chopped parsley, if desired.
💡 Tips:
For extra richness, you can add a splash of sherry or brandy.
Adjust the level of heat by increasing or decreasing the cayenne pepper.
Serve with crusty bread or a side of crackers for dipping.
