My cheating husband kicked me out without allowing me to take my clothes—weeks later, his mistress showed up in my late mom’s dress at a party, but when I told her, “Check the pocket,” she went pale.
After twelve years of marriage and more affairs than I could handle, I finally told my husband, Ryan, I wanted a divorce.
His reaction was icy.
“If you walk out that door, don’t expect to come back for anything. What’s in my house stays in my house. Maybe next time you’ll think before leaving a husband who pays the bills.”
I assumed he was bluffing. He wasn’t. While I stayed with my sister, Ryan changed the locks and refused to let me gather even my clothes.
Days later, his mistress, Vanessa, began posting photos from my home. She had my leather jacket on in one picture, my beach dress in another, her arm draped around Ryan’s waist.
I pushed down my anger and messaged her privately, keeping it polite.
“Vanessa, please stop wearing my clothes. They belong to me. Whatever happened between Ryan and me, please just put my things in boxes and let me collect them.”
She answered with laughing emojis.
“They’re in Ryan’s house, so I guess they’re mine now 😂. Consider it your contribution to his upgrade.”
Then another text popped up.
“And honestly? Your clothes look much better on me.”
I left it alone.
Three weeks later, I went to a mutual friend’s birthday party, aware that Ryan and Vanessa might show up.
I still wasn’t ready for what Vanessa arrived wearing.
My mother’s midnight-blue dress.
Mom had worn it to her last anniversary dinner with Dad. A month before she passed, she handed it to me and said, “Wear it whenever you need to remember how much you’re loved.”
Ryan and Vanessa both knew that. I had explicitly begged her not to touch that dress.
Yet there she was, standing there with a smile in it.
“Recognize it?” she asked, smoothing the skirt. “Ryan picked it out for me.”
For a second, tears threatened.
Then I noticed the small pocket hidden in the right seam.
And it came back to me.
What I had tucked inside months before everything collapsed.
I fixed my gaze on Vanessa.
“Check the pocket.”
Her grin faded.
“What?”
“The right one. Go ahead.”
She slid her hand inside and pulled something out.
The second she saw it, all the color drained from her face.
Then she slowly turned to Ryan.
“Ryan, what the hell is this?!”
For the first time since he kicked me out, Ryan looked genuinely terrified as he stared at what Vanessa was holding.
