“My teenage daughter, Hannah, always hurried straight to the bathroom after coming back from her father’s house until one night, I followed her and nearly broke down.

Hannah had developed a routine that made my chest tighten.

Every afternoon, as soon as she returned from Lloyd’s place, she dropped her backpack near the stairs and vanished down the hallway.

No “Hi, Mom.” No snack. Just the hard click of the bathroom lock.

I blamed the divorce. Her age. The awkwardness of moving between two homes. After fifteen years, Lloyd and Hannah were still family in every way that mattered.

One evening, I tried to keep my voice light.

“Why do you always shower the minute you get home?”

Her smile appeared too quickly.

“I just feel gross after being out,” she said.

But Hannah had never been the kind of girl who cared about a spotless room or perfectly folded socks.

Later, after she fell asleep, I stepped into the bathroom. Steam still fogged the mirror. One damp sock was shoved behind the trash can.

Then I saw something pale blue caught near the drain.

I used tweezers to pull it free.

A torn strip of fabric.

Light blue cotton, with a tiny embroidered daisy along the seam.

My stomach twisted. I knew that fabric. It was from the blouse Hannah had worn to Lloyd’s house that morning.

A faded rusty-brown mark clung to one edge.

My fingers turned ice cold.

I grabbed my phone and called Lloyd.

He answered on the fourth ring, sounding much too calm.

“Everything okay?”

“Either you tell me what happened to my daughter,” I said, my voice trembling, “or we are done playing nice.”

For a few seconds, there was only silence. Then I heard him set a glass down.

“Finally,” he said quietly. “Hannah begged me to keep this hidden, but you need to know what’s really been happening over here.” Full story in 1st comment 👇👇”
