My husband required me to sleep in our car every night since

My husband required me to sleep in our car every night since my pregnancy disturbed his sleep—when his mother found out unintentionally, she made him pay for it in her own way.

At thirty-four weeks pregnant, my back aches constantly. My ribs are sore from repeated kicks at night. I wake often, needing to go to the bathroom.

I toss and turn, adjust my pillows, sit up, then lie down, repeating again and again.

We live in a cramped, one-bedroom flat.

Around three one morning, Ryan sat up quickly.

“I can’t do this anymore.”

“I’m sorry. I can’t stop it,” I whispered.

He looked at me.

“Then go sleep somewhere else!”

He retrieved my car keys from the counter and threw them onto the bed.

“The seats in your car recline.”

I looked at him in shock.

“Ryan… I’m eight months pregnant.”

“So? I pay rent,” was his response. “I need to sleep for work. You’re on maternity leave. What’s the harm in sleeping in the car for a bit?”

I expected him to apologize the following morning.

He never did.

It became our nightly pattern.

Each night, I carried my pillow down the stairs and curled up in the back seat.

At 6:30, Ryan would send me a message.

“You can come back up.”

Last Friday night, that changed.

Close to 2 a.m., headlights crossed the parking lot.

A silver SUV parked next to mine.

I heard a knock on my window.

My MIL was there in a bathrobe.

She looked at me, stunned.

“I came because Ryan didn’t answer, and I got worried. Why are YOU out here?!” she asked.

I began to cry, telling her the full story.

She whispered softly,

“Oh my God… I can’t believe I raised a son like this.”

She went back to her car and returned holding a LONG, brown-paper-wrapped package.

“Come with me,” she said quietly. “You’ll want to watch this.”

Ryan opened the front door, smiling.

“Mom?”

She handed him the package.

“A little surprise.”

As he tore off the paper, his smile vanished at once.

He dropped it.

“Mom…” he whispered.

“What the hell? You can’t do this!” ⬇️
