Ham & Cheese Lasagna with Creamy Mornay Sauce

Ingredients
Lasagna Layers

6 large fresh lasagna sheets (or no-boil sheets)

6 slices deli ham (Black Forest or honey ham works great)

1½ cups shredded Gruyère cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Creamy Mornay Sauce

4 Tbsp unsalted butter

4 Tbsp all-purpose flour

3 cups whole milk, warm

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

½ tsp salt
-
¼ tsp white or black pepper

Pinch of nutmeg (optional but classic)
Optional Garnish

Fresh parsley or chives, finely chopped
Directions

Preheat Oven
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly butter a baking dish. -
Make the Mornay Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
Slowly whisk in warm milk, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened.
Reduce heat and stir in Gruyère, Parmesan, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until melted and silky. -
Assemble the Lasagna
Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of the dish.
Add a layer of lasagna sheets, followed by ham slices, shredded mozzarella, and sauce.
Repeat layers until ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and extra cheese on top. -
Bake
Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until bubbly and lightly golden on top. -
Rest & Serve
Let lasagna rest 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
