Mediterranean Crispy Fried Feta Triangles with Hot Chili Honey

Mediterranean Crispy Fried Feta Triangles with Hot Chili Honey

Overview

Mediterranean Crispy Fried Feta Triangles with Hot Chili Honey are the kind of appetizer that instantly grabs attention — golden, flaky, irresistibly crunchy on the outside, with a warm, creamy, salty interior that melts perfectly into a drizzle of spicy-sweet honey. This dish captures everything we love about Mediterranean cuisine: simple ingredients, bold flavors, and an elegant presentation that feels restaurant-quality yet incredibly easy to make at home.

Inspired by traditional Greek meze platters, these fried feta parcels combine two iconic ingredients — phyllo dough and feta cheese — creating a contrast of textures that is truly magical. The phyllo becomes shatteringly crisp when pan-fried, while the feta softens into a creamy, tangy center. The finishing touch, a drizzle of homemade hot chili honey, adds warmth, sweetness, and a subtle fiery kick that elevates each bite.

Whether you’re hosting a dinner party, planning a holiday spread, or simply craving a standout appetizer, these Crispy Fried Feta Triangles are guaranteed to impress. With minimal ingredients and maximum flavor impact, this recipe is destined to become a go-to favorite for entertaining.

Ingredients

For the Feta Triangles

  • 1 block of feta cheese (approx. 7 oz), sliced into ½-inch slabs

  • 6–8 sheets of phyllo dough, thawed

  • Olive oil or melted butter (for brushing)

  • Neutral oil for frying (like sunflower or canola oil)

For the Hot Chili Honey

  • 1/3 cup honey

  • 1 tsp red chili flakes (adjust to taste)

  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice (optional for extra balance)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Chili Honey

In a small saucepan, warm the honey gently over low heat. Stir in the chili flakes and optional lemon juice. Allow the mixture to steep so the flavors develop.
Make sure the honey doesn’t boil — you’re only warming it to release the chili’s heat and fragrance. Turn off the heat and set aside while preparing the feta parcels.

2. Wrap the Feta

Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a flat surface. Brush it lightly with olive oil or melted butter, covering the surface so the layers crisp beautifully.
Layer a second sheet on top and brush again.
Place a slab of feta near one end of the phyllo. Fold the sides inward to encase the cheese, then roll it forward tightly into a parcel. You can shape it into either a triangle or a rectangle, both work perfectly.
Repeat this process until all feta slices are wrapped.

3. Fry the Triangles

Heat a thin layer of neutral oil in a non-stick or cast iron skillet over medium heat.
When the oil is shimmering, place the feta parcels seam-side down. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, or until deeply golden and crisp.
Transfer the fried parcels to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

4. Drizzle with Chili Honey

Right before serving, spoon the warm chili honey generously over the crisp feta triangles. The honey melts slightly over the hot pastry, creating a glossy, flavor-packed glaze.
