⭐ Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 ¼ lbs. beef steak, cut into bite-size pieces (sirloin, chuck, or round all work well)

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 4 cups beef broth

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper, more to taste

  • ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste

  • 12 oz egg noodles, cooked according to package directions

  • Optional: ½ cup sour cream or ¼ cup heavy cream for extra richness

  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley

🥘 Instructions

1. Brown the Beef

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

  2. Add beef in a single layer (you may need to work in batches).

  3. Sear 3–4 minutes per side until browned.

  4. Transfer beef to a plate and set aside.

2. Sauté the Vegetables

  1. In the same pan, add onions; cook 3–4 minutes until softened.

  2. Add mushrooms and cook until they release their liquid and begin to brown, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add garlic and cook 1 minute until fragrant.

3. Make the Gravy Base

  1. Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir to coat evenly.

  2. Cook 1 minute to remove raw flour taste.

  3. Gradually stir in beef broth while scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.

  4. Add Worcestershire, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper.

4. Simmer Until Tender

  1. Return browned beef and its juices to the pot.

  2. Bring mixture to a simmer.

  3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook 20–30 minutes, or until beef is tender and gravy has thickened.

    • If gravy becomes too thick, add a splash of broth. If too thin, simmer uncovered a few extra minutes.

Optional: Stir in sour cream or heavy cream for a richer, creamier sauce.

5. Combine & Serve

  1. Add cooked egg noodles directly into the pot and toss until coated,
OR ladle the beef and gravy over a plate of warm noodles.

  2. Taste and adjust seasoning.

  3. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
