Cranberry Orange Sour Cream Scones

Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small cubes
3/4 cup sour cream
1 large egg
Zest of 1 orange
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries (if using frozen, do not thaw)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Glaze (optional):

1 cup powdered sugar
2-3 tablespoons orange juice
Zest of 1 orange (for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Scones:
Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Cut in the Butter:

Add the chilled butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Combine Wet Ingredients:

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream, egg, orange zest, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Mix Ingredients:

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. Do not overmix. Fold in the cranberries until evenly distributed.
Shape and Bake:
Shape the Scones:

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut the dough into 8 wedges or use a round biscuit cutter to make individual scones.
Bake:

Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool:

Remove the scones from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
Prepare the Glaze (optional):
Make the Glaze:

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more orange juice or powdered sugar as needed.
Glaze the Scones:

Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones and sprinkle with additional orange zest for garnish if desired.
