🥢 Chinese Pepper Steak 😍
A classic stir-fry that’s juicy, savory, and full of crisp-tender veggies and bold flavor—this Chinese Pepper Steak is your ticket to takeout-style satisfaction at home.
🍖 Ingredients:
1 lb beef top sirloin steak, thinly sliced against the grain
¼ cup soy sauce – for deep umami flavor
2 tbsp white sugar – to balance the saltiness
2 tbsp cornstarch – for thickening and tenderizing
½ tsp ground ginger – adds warmth and aroma
3 tbsp vegetable oil, divided – for stir-frying
1 red onion, cut into 1-inch squares – slightly sweet and adds crunch
Optional Add-ins (recommended):
1-2 bell peppers (red/green), sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp sesame oil (for finishing)
Cooked white rice for serving
🔥 Instructions:
1️⃣ Marinate the Steak
In a medium bowl, combine:
Soy sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and ginger.
Add the sliced beef and toss to coat.
Let it marinate for at least 15–20 minutes (or up to 1 hour for deeper flavor).
2️⃣ Stir-Fry the Steak
Heat 1½ tablespoons of oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the beef (in batches if needed) and sear for 2–3 minutes until browned but not overcooked. Remove and set aside.
3️⃣ Cook the Veggies
In the same pan, add the remaining 1½ tablespoons of oil.
Stir-fry the onions (and bell peppers/garlic if using) for 2–3 minutes, just until tender-crisp.
4️⃣ Bring It All Together
Return the steak to the pan.
Stir everything together and cook for 1–2 minutes more, letting the sauce thicken and coat everything.
Drizzle with a splash of sesame oil for that final touch.
🍚 Serve It Up
Spoon the pepper steak over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
🍴 Tips:
Slice steak thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
Use high heat to keep everything crisp, not soggy.
Swap sirloin with flank steak or ribeye if you prefer.
Add a dash of chili flakes or sriracha for a spicy kick 🔥
