Homemade Hamburger Helper
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups beef broth
1 1/2 cups milk
2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon mustard powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons sour cream (optional, for creaminess)
Directions:
Cook the Beef:
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Break up the meat as it cooks.
Once browned, drain any excess fat.
Add Onion and Garlic:
Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, until the onion is softened and the garlic is fragrant.
Add Seasonings and Liquid:
Stir in the paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard powder, salt, and pepper.
Pour in the beef broth and milk, stirring to combine.
Add Pasta and Tomatoes:
Stir in the elbow macaroni and diced tomatoes.
Bring the mixture to a simmer and cover the skillet.
Cook the Pasta:
Let the pasta cook in the liquid for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.
Add Cheese and Sour Cream:
Once the pasta is cooked, reduce the heat to low.
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.
If you prefer a creamier texture, add 2 tablespoons of sour cream and mix well.
Serve:
Serve your homemade Hamburger Helper hot, garnished with fresh parsley or green onions if desired.
