👩🍳 How to Make Egg-Free Scones – 7 Directions
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Line a baking tray with parchment paper or lightly grease it with margarine.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
If using optional zest or dried fruits, add them here.
3. Cut in the Margarine
Add 500 grams of cold Rama/Woodenspoon margarine in chunks.
Use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to work the margarine into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Add Wet Ingredients
Gradually stir in 2 cups of amasi.
If using custard, add it now. Mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
Do not overmix, or scones may become tough.
5. Shape the Scones
Turn dough onto a floured surface.
Pat or roll out to 1–1.5 inch thick.
Cut into desired shapes: rounds, squares, or triangles using a cutter or knife.
6. Bake
Place scones on the prepared baking tray, leaving some space between them.
Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.
The scones should feel firm to the touch but soft inside.
7. Cool & Serve
Allow scones to cool slightly on a wire rack.
Serve warm with butter, jam, or honey. Optionally, drizzle with icing sugar or glaze for a sweet finish.
